san francisco

In December, we went on what was an absolute dream holiday for me! We went to Hawaii, and had a stopover in San Francisco for a few nights on the way. When I was younger, I used to be obsessed with America. I used to tell anyone who would listen that I was going to move there when I grew up! So it was so nice to finally visit, as even though I've done a lot of travelling this was my first time there.

Some highlights of the trip:

  • The Golden Gate bridge. What can I say, it's just iconic.
  • Breakfast and window shopping at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.
  • Mr Holmes Bakehouse. I can't even remember what we had but it was delicious.
  • Our first full day, we ended up just walking around the city and we saw so much, I think we walked 11 miles in total and I was exhausted the next day but it was so worth it!

Say hello to the latest addition to our family, Wesley. He's a 16 week old Boston Terrier puppy, and he is just the sweetest, most angelic little boy.

    Welcome to the family, Wes.

For my husband's 30th birthday, I surprised him with a trip to Iceland. Iceland is somewhere that he's always wanted to go to, and I really wanted to treat him with something extra special for his 30th. So I plotted and schemed and booked an amazing deal in January and kept it secret until his birthday in August (don't ask me how I did that. I've no idea how I managed to keep it a secret for so long. And there was definitely some near slip ups, let me tell you!)

And oh my gosh. Iceland was so beyond perfect. We both absolutely adored it. We packed a lot into our five days there as well, we could have easily spent about a fortnight. It was so us; stunning scenery, cool temperatures, whales, amazing food, and all the cute little cafes.

    Tips for travelling to Iceland:

  • We weren't sure what the best way to get around and see things was going to be, so because we were only there for five days we decided to book excursion through Reykjavik Excursions. They were honestly so good, the drivers were fab and we saw some amazing things and met some really lovely fellow travellers.
  • Make sure you do the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon - they're popular for a reason!
  • If you can, try and make it to the glacial lake, Jökulsárlón. It's a long day from Reykjavik but it's just breathtaking, and one of my favourite moments of our holiday was looking out over the lake.
  • We got a really amazing deal flying from Manchester on the August bank holiday by booking in the January sales on Expedia. There are some really cheap flight deals from the UK so make sure you shop around!
  • The only downside was our hotel was kind of far out from the town centre. I found it unusually hard to figure out where to stop. If possible, try and find a hotel on or just off Laugavegur, which is the main shopping street with lots of cafes, bars, restaurants etc.
  • The food in Iceland is absolutely amazing although it can be pricey. Everything seemed to be made from fresh ingredients, even the pub lunch we had, but places can be very busy so it's best to book.

Here are just a few of the photos taken on our travels.

Wow, it's been a long time since I posted an entry on here! To be honest, I'm not doing paid photography any more. It was a difficult decision to make, and something that I would like to write more in depth about in the future. I'd also like to continue to post some posts out on this blog, and I have a makeover planned for it, so I can share some more of my personal work.

In the meantime, I thought I'd give a bit of an update!

I'm currently working for my husband's electrical company doing the administration and financial side of things.

Our electrical company is based in Rotherham, but we work throughout Rotherham, Barnsley, Sheffield and the UK. We undertake all kinds of electrical work, including full and partial rewires, testing, fire alarms and security systems. If you're looking for an excellent quality and reliable electrical company, then you should definitely call APR Electrical Solutions Ltd for a quote! We work with commercial and domestic customers. You can visit our website here.

This past weekend felt like Spring had finally arrived. Sunny blue skies, a little warmth, and a bank holiday weekend. What more could you ask for?

In the depths of miserable January, Adam surprised me with a trip he'd booked for us to Dorset and I've been looking forward to it ever since. Well, I suppose technically it was a trip to Devon, but we stopped right on the edge of the county in a lovely little B&B on a farm and spent the majority of our time in Dorset, so I suppose either way is okay! We got up silly early on Friday and drove straight down to Axminster, it only took us four hours from the North!

Once we'd got there, we were too early to check in so we decided to have a drive out to Lulworth Cove (thanks to Junkaholique for the recommendations on her blog!). I loved it there, even though it wasn't a sunny day and it was still raining a bit on the Friday, you could see it was such a beautiful place, and I'd love to go back in the summer and swim in the sea in the cove!

On Saturday, we actually took a cooking course at River Cottage! Dream come true for me but more about it in my next post. After we'd finished the class, we drove to Weymouth along the Jurassic Coastal road for some supper.

The views along the coastal road were absolutely breathtaking, especially on our way back when the sun was setting too. We stopped at a lookout to get out of the car to really soak it up. I tried to get a couple of pictures, but I really couldn't do it justice with my phone.

On Sunday, we went to Monkey World which is an ape rescue centre. They do such good work there, and we'd wanted to go for a long time so I'm glad we could squeeze it into this trip. Afterwards, we went into Lyme Regis for the afternoon where we pondered around the shops, had a walk along the seafront, called to the pub for a quick half and had fish and chips for tea.

Back at the farm for our last night before coming home. I loved all the animals that they had there, wish I could have brought a duck or chicken or two home with me!
